The poor charcoal maker Peter Munk desperately longs for riches and success. In his despair, he turns to the dreaded Dutch-Michael, who many fear is a demon, and makes a pact with him: He agrees to trade his heart for a cold stone in exchange for immeasurable riches. However, from then on he no longer takes delight in anything ...

Wilhelm Hauff `s novella is both an eerily beautiful, romantic fairy tale and an absurd journey through the depths of the human soul. Jo Fabian has staged this work as a magical adventure for children, teens and adults.

"Jo Fabian has staged Wilhelm Hauff `s "The Cold Heart" as an entertaining and imaginative evening for the entire family. Social hardship, greed, deceit and murder are serious topics, yet Fabian takes an amusingly grotesque approach full of good humour."
