A theatrical collage on the topic of "child euthanasia" in National Socialism - a historical investigation composed of documents as well as fiction.
Two timeless figures step foot onto the ruins of a house which has not known peace for years and has long been deprived of guardian angels. Slowly, they begin to uncover the secrets buried in its walls. This collage combines drama, images and puppetry with documentary clips to take a unique look at the fate of victims, offenders and followers of an institution in which physically and mentally disabled children were deemed "unworthy of life" and killed between 1941 and 1943.
"Das Schutzengelhaus" ("The Guardian Angel House") does not merely aim for a quick emotional horror effect. Instead, it digs deeper. (...) The audience has to watch, read, listen and take in subtle allusions through facial expressions and abstract character sketches. (...) Director Rinus Knobel and his two performers touch on a sensitive issue - an old wound that could potentially reopen anytime or anyplace."
